PSL Playing Conditions

PSL playing conditions are published by the PCB for each edition, and our sources show a few rules that have changed over time. For PSL 11 each captain could submit two sets of first XI to the match referee, and each XI needed three to four overseas players. The PSL 11 final had a reserve day on 4 May, and one league match was cut to 13 overs per side by rain.

Which amendments did the PCB publish for PSL 7?

ClausePSL 7 (2022) amendment
1.2.5A minimum of seven and a maximum of eight local players in the XI, including an emerging player
13.8If the fielding side is not ready to bowl the final over on time, one fewer fielder is allowed outside the 30-yard circle for the rest of the innings

21.5The TV umpire calls no-balls
Covid rulesA match needed at least 13 Covid-negative players; replacements could be sought from a reserve pool

Those amendments were published for the 2022 season, so they do not necessarily apply today. We have not found the PCB’s current full playing-conditions document, so powerplay, strategic timeout, DLS and Super Over rules are not described here.

How do reserve days work for the final?

The PSL 7 amendment says that if the final has no result on the reserve day, the team top of the table after 30 league matches wins. That figure matched a six-team double round robin; PSL 11 had 40 league matches, so the number would need to differ, and we have not found the PSL 11 version of the clause. The PSL 11 final was scheduled for 3 May with 4 May as the reserve day and finished on the scheduled day. See the PSL 11 final page.

What is still to be set for PSL 12?

The PCB has said retention, trade, auction rules and playing conditions will be settled at a franchise workshop, and no date has been announced. See the points and NRR guide, the retention and squad rules and the PSL 12 page.
